Daniel Hernandez (born May 8, 1996), known mononymously as 6ix9ine , Tekashi69 or Tekashi 6ix9ine , is an American rapper , singer , songwriter and influencer . Hernandez is known for his distinctive rainbow-themed look, tattoos, aggressive style, public feuds with other celebrities, legal troubles, and more than a little controversial personality!

Hernandez rose to prominence in 2017 with the release of his debut single “ Gummo ” which was certified platinum by the RIAA. In early 2018, Hernandez released his first mixtape, " Day69 ", which debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 albums chart. He then entered the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 with " Fefe " in collaboration with Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz, a single which reached third place on the chart in just a few days. His debut studio album, " Dummy " Boy, was released on November 27, 2018, after being delayed a week earlier due to an arrest , and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.

Who is 6ix9ine?

Daniel Hernandez was born on May 8, 1996 in Bushwick in the Brooklyn neighborhood of New York, to a mother from Atlixco , Mexico and a Puerto Rican father. He was raised with his older brother by his parents until the age of 13, when his father was shot dead just steps from the family home. Emotionally disturbed by the death of his father , Hernandez began to behave excessively and ended up being expelled from his school for bad behavior.

Rather than continue his studies, he begins doing various odd jobs, such as that of a waiter , to help his mother financially. Hernandez also sold drugs to make ends meet , including cannabis and heroin on the streets while working at a Brooklyn bodega. He was eventually arrested for his criminal activities and sentenced to Rikers Island Prison, where he began associating with the Nine Trey Gangsters, a prison subset of the Bloods gang.

6ix9ine and his extraordinary grillz

Hernandez began writing in 2014. Over the next three years, he released multiple tracks and videos like " Scumlife ", " Yokai " and " Hellsing Station ", gaining attention for his aggressive rap style and the use of Japanese-style anime for its music videos. His first songs were produced by FCK THEM , a music label based in Slovakia.

Becoming famous as an Internet meme for his rainbow-colored dyed hair and rainbow-plated grillz , he eventually teamed up with another New York rapper, ZillaKami . While almost every American rapper today wears grillz , 6ix9ine's are still unique. While multi-colored grillz are his favorite, he has also been seen wearing silver grillz with fangs , no less!
